Our journey began on a clear night in southern Sweden, beside the calm waters of Immeln Lake. The sound of our campfire punctuated the quiet, casting light on the gathering of friends.
The Brotorpet nature reserve is a sanctuary where old trees fall naturally, becoming homes for insects and food for birds like woodpeckers and pigeons. These logs show the continuous cycle of life and death in what is called Southern Sweden’s “last wilderness.”
As the evening advanced, the echoing calls of the great loon reminded us of the enduring wilderness here. These waters are cherished by canoeists and fishermen alike, offering a peaceful retreat from daily life.
Looking across the lake, a lone cabin sparked discussions of solitude and endurance in the expansive nature. Its isolation encourages reflection, merging with the quiet beauty of the forested environment.
As we concluded our first day in Sweden, we felt a deep peace, reminded of the quiet strength found in nature. The forests and wildlife of the Immeln area invite you to step away and find the wilderness within.
